About Intambo

Hi, thanks for stopping by. I'm Jackie and I'm a wholesale yarn distributer based in Sydney, Australia.

I started Intambo - (Zulu word for yarn or thread) after being frustrated at the range of great yarns being used on blogs all over the world, but not available to buy here in the Asia Pacific region. Buying on line from Europe and South Africa isn't an option with the shipping costs sometimes being greater than the cost of the yarn! I'm now spreading the love of beautiful South African hand dyed yarn throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Asian region. I very proudly represent Vinnis ColoursMoYaNurturing Fibres Yarns and Cowgirlblues.

Vinnis Colours is a specialised range of hand dyed cotton and bamboo yarn with the largest colour palette I've ever come across. It's perfect for the needs of the most artistic crafter and suits the light and climate we have here in the Southern Hemisphere.

MoYa Yarns are a gorgeous range of hand dyed yarns with beautiful pastel shades through to amazing variegated colours. MoYa yarns are unique and no two balls are the same. This yarn takes any project to the next level.

Nurturing fibres have developed dyeing methods over the last 12 years and dye variegated, mottled, self striping and semi solid colourways. Their colour ways are inspired by nature, childhood memories, emotions, dreams and the good life in South Africa. The colours are sometimes bold and other times they are more muted.

Cowgirlblues is a Cape Town-based dye house and design studio specialising in South African wool and mohair. Started by Bridget Henderson, who, frustrated at not being able to find suitable wool locally, she decided to start spinning and dyeing her own, and so the cowgirlblues brand was born.

I learnt to crochet at the age of 8 and made many granny square blankets into my teens. I have always been surrounded by makers, with both my grandmothers, mother and aunties being great crafters with knitting, sewing, tapestry, embroidery and crochet projects always on the go somewhere. I studied Fine Art and then Graphic Design after school and have run my own design business for 22 years.

5 years ago I started following blogs and was quickly inspired to pick up a hook again after a long absence.  I like working with natural fibres and especially cotton for it's great stitch definition and stronger range of colours.  I love finding a great colour combination or new brand of yarn and then searching for the perfect pattern. I guess that's why I have such a huge 'work in progress' pile.

I'd love to hear from you if you are a yarn retailer interested in stocking Vinnis Colours, MoYa, Nurturing Fibres and Cowgirlblues, or a crafter looking for a retail supplier.

Hope you can come on this yarning journey with me.
